in a world where you can be anything you want, you still can't be everything.

i've always liked to cook and bake, especially when it's for others. thai-chili salmon tartar over rye with sliced gouda. and for dessert, a layered black forest cake with maraschino cherries and chocolate shavings. with a menu like that, i often leave my tasters asking me why i never went to culinary school. why didn't i go to culinary school? i guess it's a combination of many excuses, valid and some not so.

for years, i've studied art: ancient, rennaissance, romantic, and modern; color theory, sculpture, etching, printmaking, installation, on and on. my aspirations in this niche are endless. i want to teach it, make it, view it, live in it. but the schools are expensive and the lifestyle, not so glamorous unless you catch a big break.

then there's every parent's dream... that their child will someday swing on a long white coat, pager in one pocket and stethoscope in the other. and after watching a few episodes of grey's anatomy, that dream of being dr. mcdreamy has, to me, become... well, dreamy. i don't like to toot my own horn, but i know have the intellect to make something like that happen. and god knows, my parents would sell the house in a hot minute when they hear their son wants to attend med school.

and then there was continental...
being passionate about so many things sounds great in a personal ad, but not on a resume. it's a blessing that i'm still young and capable... but i'm unreasonably torn between many paths, and as much as i want to be this jack-of-all-trades, i will have to settle for being an ace at one.
